Thread: D-Day Dice:: Rules:: Easier with 4p? Ties in with the "why split up the party" question...

Well, I am no expert, and I have not played a lot so far. I haen't even gotten to the third map yet. So please excuse me if I write rubbish - or better, educate me on my erroneous ways...

But it really seems to me like the game is becoming easier the more people you play with...

Let's face it, staying together for as long as possible is usually the best thing several units can do. Then, they can swap ressources easily, and pool them where needed. But even if you have to split up the party, with 4 players a 2-by-2 is usually possible (exception: the "one only" spaces).

The thing is that, once you stay together, more dice throws are useful. If you play a solo, and all you get is tools, courage, stars and skulls (and the occasional lone gunman), the RWBs mean jack squat to you, because you are dead in the water faster than you can say "Schnell, schnell!". The same is true if you get soldiers by the pound, but no courage at all in your sight - faster than "Schweinhund"...

However, if you play a 4p, you can be carried by the dice throws of the others if all you get is stuff and no manpower to move it. Likewise, you can carry the lack of their courage, etc.

Of course, that was overly simplistic, and gets harder with the more complex maps (because more manpower is needed per unit). However, the basic principle is still true - a somewhat useful final tally can be more useful in a 4p game than in a 1p game.

And this is especially true if you get yourself some Lieutenant to swap wifes - pardon, dice. Which is usually the first Unique Specialist I get (if available).

I can't help it, but so far I miss something on the maps that makes it absolutely necessary for the units to split up (say, simultaneous one-time-boni in parallel sectors; or even absolutely necessary items/objectives in other sectors)...

What is your take on this?
